Onlays
Beautiful, durable restorations for larger areas of tooth damage.
When a tooth needs more than a filling but doesn’t quite require a full crown, Onlays offer the perfect in-between solution. At Sherman Oaks Dentistry, we use custom-crafted porcelain onlays to restore strength, shape, and appearance to damaged or decayed teeth—preserving as much of your natural tooth as possible.
Onlays cover a larger portion of the tooth than inlays, including one or more of the cusps. They’re a durable, conservative way to reinforce weakened teeth while achieving a seamless, natural look.
What It Treats
• Large areas of decay or structural damage
• Cracked or fractured teeth involving the cusps
• Replacement of large, old fillings
• Teeth that need more coverage than an inlay can provide
• Weakened teeth that don’t yet require a full crown
Treatment Time
2 visits over 1 to 2 weeks, with long-lasting results.
Temporary onlays may be placed between visits, if needed.
Technology Used
• Digital intraoral scanning
• CAD/CAM porcelain restoration design
• High-strength, stain-resistant porcelain
• Custom shade-matching for natural aesthetics
• Laser cavity detection tools (when needed)
