For patients with a missing tooth, bridge work that needs replaced, or a failing root canal, a dental implant is the ideal solution. Implants offer several key advantages. Not only do they help a patient keep their perfect smile, they help restore strength to your bite and jaw line. Typically, they take a few appointments to complete, but they last a lifetime. Even if the average costs of dental implants seem high, they are a great investment in the long run.
At Sherman Oaks Dentistry, Dr. Perlaza personally starts the implant process with an initial consultation. This helps the dental implant better understand the state of your jawbone. There needs to be a minimal amount of jawbone intact to hold an implant. This is assessed with a simple imaging procedure, such as a CT scan or X-ray. In most cases, patients have enough jawbone to proceed with an implant.
The first visit involves placing a steel rod into your jawbone, the physical implant itself. The second surgery will involve a temporary healing collar and crown while the implant adjusts and fits to your jawbone. The final surgery involves fitting the crown to the abutment.
Depending upon whether the implant is going on the bottom or top jaw, the process takes about 5 to 7 months.
A Smile to Last a Lifetime
There are several immediate and long-term benefits of going with dental implants. While partial dentures and bridge work can be tedious to clean, dental implants only require regular brushing and flossing. Additionally, dental implants
- Protect healthy jawbone and your remaining teeth.
- Last longer than other types of restorative work (a lifetime vs. 10 to 15 years).
- Let you enjoy your favorite foods and beverages without any hassle.
