How Periodontal Gum Disease Treatment Works
Periodontal gum disease is a major cause of tooth loss.
- During your checkup, Dr. Perlaza will examine your gums for periodontal disease.
- If any signs of gum disease exist, X-rays will be taken to make a definitive diagnosis and determine the extent of the infection.
- When you return for your first laser periodontal treatment with Dr. Perlaza, you’ll receive a local anesthetic to eliminate any possible discomfort. A general anesthetic isn’t necessary, because laser periodontal therapy much less traumatic with no cutting, no sewing, no pain and no fear.
- A tiny laser fiber (about the thickness of three hairs) is inserted between the tooth and the gum, and the infection is cleared away. This procedure is fast and takes just two 2-hour sessions to complete.
